Details: SALARY: Negotiable to Level 22-$14.35 to Level 25 - $16.62+/hr depending on experience SUPERVISOR: Tribal Manager DUTIES: Responsible for the daily administration and direction of the Education Department. Plans, organizes and directs multiple program elements and activities. Researches statistics and develops organizational programs. Prepares and reviews budget proposals and justifications. Reviews progress of operations and monitors contract and grant compliance. Seeks new funding sources. Administers Higher Education, Title VII, Johnson O’Malley, Adult Vocational Training, Library, Summer Education Program, Tribal Enrichment Program, and performs other related duties as required. Provides career and employment counseling for students and prospective students with emphasis on high school, college, or vocational school, and continuing education. Meets with, counsels and advises students in an individual or group setting concerning academic achievement, decision making, improvement of self-image, self-esteem, values and communication skills. Meets with public school officials and other agency officials concerning specific problems and/or situations directly relating to YPT students. Coordinates after-school-tutoring activities for students. Make referrals to Social Services and Child Welfare caseworkers as necessary. Maintains accurate academic records on students through elementary school to college graduate levels. Assists students in applying for appropriate scholastic funding. Works with school, local, and Tribal officials in an effort to provide resources that enhance the educational, cultural and social opportunities for Native American students. Coordinates with Tribal officials, students, parents, Educational Committee, public schools, and Federal agencies as necessary to ensure access to quality educational programs. Reports monthly to Tribal Council. Conducts evening and/or weekend educational events as necessary to provide daytime students and parents access to counseling, internet, library and other educational resources.  Maintains strict parent-student-school confidentiality at all times. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Education; two (2) years of progressive and responsible paid employment as an educational counselor, teacher, educational administrator or similar field. Prefer Certified Teacher with Counselor Certification.  Possession of current valid Nevada Driver’s License and capable of being insured to operate Tribal vehicles. Knowledge of current literature and trends in Indian Education and counseling. Knowledge and skills in proper counseling techniques. Knowledge of and ability to teach Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet access and Internet research techniques. Ability and willingness to learn Paiute and other Native American cultures. Ability to plan, organize and manage subordinates, students and others in their assigned programs.                     NOTE: Preference may be given to qualified Native American applicants under CFR, Subpart M, Part 273, Subpart D, 273.45.Both positions require a valid Nevada Driver's License and clean driving record.
